Filippa Hamilton, a 23-year-old former model at Ralph Lauren, says she got fired because she was too fat. This has been the talk of the month in the model industry.

Ever since Hamilton started working for Ralph Lauren in 2002, she has been the same size: 5-foot-10, 120 pounds. In the beginning of October 2009, she was chocked to see her body digitally distorted for Ralph Lauren Blue Label. This ad only appeared in Japan, but got much attention world wide. She appeared unrealistically thin in the picture. “The image in question was mistakenly released and used in a department store in Japan and was not the approved image which ran in the U.S. We take full responsibility,” the statement said.

Ralph Lauren said that she got fired “as a result of her inability to meet the obligations under her contract with us”. Filippa Hamilton doesn’t understand the reason for her getting fired, since she has always been loyal to Ralph Lauren.

Sample Clothes are getting smaller

According to Kate White from Cosmopolitan Magazine, the sample clothes are getting smaller and smaller. In the 80s the sample clothes were bigger and the ideal body had curves, like Cindy Crawford’s. Today the models are a size 2 or 4 and this is more in line with the era when Twiggy was famous back in the 60s.

Filippa Hamilton wants an apology. “I think they owe American women an apology, a big apology. I’m very proud of what I look like, and I think a role model should look healthy.”
